The Urgent Need for Sustained Domestic Financing for Health

African-Led Solutions to the HIV Response

A Message from Our Campaign Lead

Kama Sywor Kamanda, a Congolese writer and poet once said “To be optimistic is always to look where the sun is rising and not where it is setting.” These words ring true once again as African resilience is coming to the fore. The current funding freeze for global health, including HIV programs, is a stark reminder that Africa must take ownership of her future. While external funding has been instrumental in the fight against HIV/AIDS, it was never meant to be the sole pillar of our response.

Across Africa, we have seen that homegrown solutions work– where governments prioritise sustained domestic resource mobilisation, health systems are stronger and communities have greater access to essential health services. Through innovative financing mechanisms, strategic partnerships and strong political will, we can safeguard our progress and ensure no one is left behind as we work to deliver the promises made in the African Unions Agenda 2063, The Africa We Want!

Now is the time to step up, not step back. The lives and futures of millions of Africans across the continent depend on sustainable, African-led financing solutions that will carry us beyond the current uncertainties to new innovative opportunities in healthcare solutions.

This campaign is a call to action, because securing our health is securing our future!
